Year 2 (9/695/70), Part 4 Jack continued to maintain coverage of the Community with special announcements and articles that featured programs in the North End to discuss the issues facing the schools in Hartford - and an active participation by students with special artworks exhibits of all types both at the Hartord Art School and in the North End of Hartford. Then there was the Hog Farm. - an outreach from Wavy Gravy best known for his Woodstock participation and through the tireless organization of Ben and Jack with the cooperation of the Hartford Police Department- The Gym was taken over for the night. A total of 15 bands played there was local radio coverage. They had it all cleaned up before the Basketball team's practice the next morning. Truly a peaceful time before the storm. The events of May 4th at both Kent State,Ohio and Jackson State,Georgia involving the shooting of approximately 11 unarmed students was part of the reasons that through SDS and other Student Leaderships throughout the country: a Nationwide Student Strike was declared. Ben was able to keep the money flowing for daily papers (A total of 7) that would bring updates to all on the strike. University of Hartford was officially shut down. The lounge of Gengras was a beehive of activity for meetingsproclamations, threats from administrators and various organized events of protests. These included sending letters to each of the Board of Regents; marching door-to-door getting support from the surrounding communities. This was also the start of local chapters of Women's Lib among others. Uh News recorded it all on of the keys in its opening coverage was a Red Fisted Hand that said STRIKE and then an Open Hand that said THINK> And then ...just like that Jack graduated...Fred Joy was elected editor for what would be the last year of publication for the UH News Liberated Press. But truth be told Jack and Ben made the mold/template...It was a truly unique brand of News and Anarchy...and...there would never be anything that got friend and foe alike in breathless anticipation every Wednesday for The Paper [ UH NEWS Liberated Press | A History ] Presentation created and maintained by Hank Mishkoff
